The moment I sat in the car and pulled the door shut, I sighed.

Dropping my head back onto the headrest, I rolled it to my left. My eyes connected with Brixton’s concerned ones.

“This job is going to be the death of me,” I informed him.

A sympathetic look washed over his face. “What happened?”

“The better question would be to ask what hasn’t happened,” I declared.

“Do you still want to go to the apartment?” he asked.

I absolutely did. There was not a chance that I was going to avoid going to my apartment simply because I’d had a bad day. “Yes.”

Brixton gave me a nod, turned to face forward, and began driving. A few days ago, after I’d allowed things to settle in my mind a bit, I realized I wanted to stop back at my apartment. Since Brixton was holding off on taking me out on a date because he wanted to do it right, I decided I needed to do the same.

So, I’d asked Brixton if he’d mind meeting me at my apartment after work today, so I could grab some things I needed. I wanted to pick up a dress, a pair of shoes, and some fancy undergarments, just in case.

Of course, not only did Brixton not say no, but he also offered to just take me in to work this morning and pick me up afterward. I wasn’t going to turn him down, because I assumed he probably would have insisted on doing it anyway.

As he started to drive away from my workplace and toward the apartment, he urged, “Tell me what’s upsetting you.”

It was now Thursday, and over the last few days, Brixton and I had started speaking to each other more and more. There wasn’t anything particularly groundbreaking about our conversation, but what had happened was that we both became more and more comfortable with one another. It wasn’t exactly like it used to be, but it was much better than I’d had in years.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, I shared, “It seems as though when one problem gets resolved, another one pops up. I’ve just had enough of it.”

“Is this that shipping delay problem you were dealing with?” he asked.

I shook my head. “No. In fact, that whole situation is finally figured out. The guy who was delivering on that route is no longer delayed, which is fantastic. But now, I’m kind of wishing I was still dealing with that issue instead of what I’m dealing with now.”

“What is it now?”

I closed my eyes and pressed my fingers into my eyelids. I swore I could feel the beginning of a headache coming on.

“Today, I received a call from one of our customers who said that the delivery was incomplete,” I replied.

“Incomplete?” he repeated.

We came to a stoplight, and I looked over at him. “Yes. The customer’s order was missing some of the items they’d purchased. With bulk quantities, it’s possible for something like that to happen, and I would have normally assumed that was the case.
